Increasing the Video Count

With the creation of our video rubric, we are increasing the number of videos that we are putting on our website. We are checking the videos for their quality to make sure that they address the problem. They also need to fit the level of professionalism that we are trying to achieve on our website. We will also be creating steps for the video if they are not already made so that if someone does not want to watch the video or has a slow connection they are able to read how to fix their problem.

Preparing for the Next Stage

The website is continuing its progression as we move ahead steadily toward the testing phase. But the video count has remained idle as we prepare to apply our video rubric to locating the best among videos we did not produce. The rubric, although it is a vital component of our upcoming testing procedures, will not suffice as our only test. We have begun compiling a table of testing procedures, organizing them according to video and web tests, and specifying what exactly they test for. Finding adequate tests beyond the bounds of user feedback will be a challenge, but we will stay thoughtful on the topic as the testing stage of our product approaches. Our video rubric will also be refined as we put it into use and determine how to make it as precise as possible.

On the Right Path

First Wave Pack is on our way to finishing our next prototypes. We have been testing our old prototypes at the same time to figure out strength and what we need to improve on. We are trying to add some different elements to the backpack to make it better then it was. We are making the overall bag smaller and a lot less bulky. We are also adding an inner layer to the bag to make it more durable and more tough so you can just throw everything in your bag and go. We are going to finish the bags this week and can't wait to test them out and take another step towards our final project.Today, we continued to cut out pieces for our new backpack design. We got some new one inch white buckles in the other day so we put them to good use on a section of the backpack that helps evenly distribute the weight of the roller skis. Another thing we talked about was the best method of attaching the bar to the bag. Hopefully, we will have a finished backpack with our modified design by the end of the week.

New Hand Piece Design

In the last couple of days, we've been working on improving the hand piece. Our new design will be lighter, stronger and more user-friendly. Instead of having the rest fixed, now it will be one bar, which slides along the bottom of the arm rest to accommodate for different arm lengths. Also, there will be different diameter tubes which slide on and are pinned on to the bar for different sized hands or different angles. We are currently working on sketching the idea on Inventor and will begin to implement it in the design while working in the next couple of days.

Fabrication is Key

Team PivoRest is hard at work making our second prototype. Today in class, we made a new mold to bend the plastic around once heated and designed a way to distribute the weight of the armrest on the pivot point. This will decrease the torque and put less pressure on this crucial piece. Moving forward, we will continue to work on our prototype. We will be meeting over the weekend to fabricate the piece to distribute weight.

Unbiased Feedback

To be able to have a website that truly meets the needs of people not familiar with computers, we needed to find somebody who has had trouble with computers and does not know us. To accomplish this task we went to a local supermarket and asked everybody coming out of the
store. After a while we were able to find someone who was willing to help us. We sent this man an email to further explain what our class is really about, and we hope to gain constructive feedback from him in the future.
